Candy Crush Review

By George Harding

Here’s a game that’s sweeping the nation of smartphones and tablets! It has enthralled thousands of players and is an example of how a simple game can be all-encompassing.
Crush is simple, or at least it is at first. You are given a display of various objects. Your challenge is to switch two items so that you now have three or more of the same items in a row or column. The game then deletes the like items and moves new ones into the vacated spaces.
But that’s just the beginning, to get you into the swing of things. The game adds various new challenges as you complete successive levels. Early on, the challenges are not too hard, but later levels have mind-daunting, devilish things you have to do in order to complete that level.
The game is simple enough that almost anyone can play it, but it seems that it is of most interest to adults. Many find themselves playing the game whenever a few spare moments present themselves. In most cases, the game is not played with others, although there is constant competition to beat a friend or coworker to a particular level.
The amazing thing is that there are 485 levels currently, but who knows how many may ultimately be created. The popularity of the game can be somewhat gauged by the 85 million Google entries generated by a “candy crush” query!
I am at a very low level currently, but with urging be certain members of my family, I’ll continue my struggle to attain a higher level.
For those few not already playing, versions are available for Apple, Android and Kindle, which about covers the mobile universe!
