Astro External Battery Review

By George Harding

This is one of the smallest external batteries I’ve seen, and one of the simplest!

The unit is an oval cylinder about 3 inches long. It has two connector points, a standard USB port for charging any device that can be connected by USB, and a micro-USB port for charging the internal battery. There is an indicator on the outer surface that indicates availability and degree of charge. It’s activated by moving or shaking the unit.

The unit comes with an Instruction Manual in English and three other languages, the charger itself, a cable with a USB and a micro-USB plug, along with a woven bag to hold the cable.

The battery provides up to 6000 mAh power, enough to charge an iPhone more than 3 times. Unfortunately, the product does not come with either the 30 pin connector for iPhone 4 or the smaller-pin cable for iPhone 5. This is not a problem as long as you have the cable that came with your phone.

The Smart Port identifies your device and charges it at its maximum rate, up to 2A.

Whether you have a smartphone, MP3 player or tablet, the Astro is waiting to charge it when you need it. It’s easily carried in your pocket or purse.
