The Olympus PEN E-PM2

Olympus has announced the Olympus PEN E-PM2 digital camera and it looks like a step back in some ways to me. Yes, it has all kinds of upgraded software and hardware but to me it’s missing a key feature. There is no built in flash!

That’s a real step back to me. The first PEN digital camera we tested, an E-P1, was flashless and it was one of our big complaints. All of the PEN cameras we’ve reviewed since have had built-in, albeit weak, flash units and they have served us very well.

Paying close to $600 for a compact MILC and then having to invest hundreds more in an external flash (that will take up the slot you’ll need for a viewfinder, BTW) seems like a huge step back.

In our opinion the superb Olympus PEN E-P3 is still tops in the MILC market.
