Newertech Power2U

By George Harding

With all the mobile devices we have these days, it’s hard sometimes to keep them charged. You have to keep the charging cable handy and then find an unused outlet. And if you need to charge more than one, you have cables snaking to two outlets.

Here’s an innovative solution for you. Newer Technology  has created a replacement wall outlet that has not only the usual two power sockets, but also has two mini-USB outlets.

You can use the outlets to charge your MP3 player, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Blackberry, GPS device, digital camera and any other device that uses USB 3.0/2.0/1.1. Up to four devices can charge at the same time.

The outlet connects to any 15a AC circuit in a 16 cu. In. electrical box with a white plastic wall plate and includes mounting screws. It’s UL approved.

There are two features that may save you some money. The Smart Power design provides only as much power as needed by the device being charged. The other feature shuts off the USB sockets, when the connecting plug is removed.

While you have to install the Power2U yourself, anyone that has done any electrical wiring can do the job in a few minutes. If help is required, the OWC website has a step-by-step video that shows you how to do the job in 20 minutes or less. The package includes a manual with instructions for installation, as well.

Warranty is one year.
