Motorola and Android
We just learned that Motorola will not be upgrading any of their Smartphones in the US to Android 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, until Q3 of 2012 at the earliest. The only device that will be using ICS will be the WiFi only version of the Motorola XOOM. This seems really odd to us. Other countries, including China, Japan and Canada will be getting the upgrade but not the good old USA.
ICS was designed to be the OS that will work on Smartphones and Tablets equally well and it seems to us that Motorola would want to standardize on it ASAP. The iFruit company always uses the same version of their OS on their phones and Tablets but Android still has various versions being sold on new products. Why are we being asked to buy a brand new product that may have a version of Android as old as 2.2?
Hopefully all of this will change at some point and we’ll see every new Phablet have the latest version of Android on it.
